</PRE> </noinclude>Kaieda is the principal of the Hinamizawa School who first appears in Onikakushi-hen. During a scene in Onikakushi-hen, it is revealed that he is ashamed of his bald head. His background is developed more in the Sound Novels. Before becoming an educator, he traveled all around the world to become a martial arts master. He became an educator "after being concerned about the corrupted educational system of post-war Japan."

The students believe he is the reason why no delinquents attend Hinamizawa's school. The Sound Novels generally play students fear of him for comedy, such as the punishment game involving something that everyone know will earn his ire, similar to having to "insult curry" within the hearing of Chie Rumiko.

In Minagoroshi-hen, he helps Keiichi and The Club convince the youth office to save Satoko from her abusive uncle, Hōjō Teppei.

Kaieda wears a large brown coat with a violet tie and matching pants. He is bald and has a little brown moustache. He always wears the same outfit.
