The scene focuses on the sign for the Da Vinci game store. Outside, Keiichi asks the girls if, basically, what they want him to do is auction off donated prizes at the festival. Mion happily confirms and promises that if he does a good job, he will win three years' worth of tickets to the Angel Mort Dessert Fiesta. Satoko praises the rewards and predicts Keiichi will earn it while he folds his arms and ruminates. He grouses to her that it is easy for her to say when she does not have to earn it. They enter the store with Rena insisting that he will be fine. Rika remains outside with a sad expression. She finally closes her eyes in resignation and enters. 
Mion's uncle Yoshiro stands stoically behind the register with his arms folded. He grumbles then insists that while he would love to donate to the auction, but,. ." and Mion eagerly interrupts that the "old hag" hopes his donations will make the auction fun for all ages. This convinces him to donate, and Mion cutely thanks him. She then happily informs Keiichi that her uncle will make a "generous" donation. As the scene pans boxes of figurines and games, Keiichi suggests that they find something that will attract people and make them want to bid high. Laughing her patented laugh, Satoko suggests that they leave it to her; Rena follows and suggests that they keep an eye on "Uncle Yoshiro's reaction" while they pick something. Satoko does find a stuffed character which she declares to Rena will be perfect. Rika actually smiles as she watched them, with Uncle Yoshiro looking pained behind her. As Rena rapidly cycles from Cute to Take Home Mode, Uncle Yoshiro begs them to keep it reasonable.
Keiichi finds a game he does not recognize. Rena immediately sees that it is mahjong, and she declares that since she has not played it in so long she has forgotten most of the rules. Keiichi asks if they played it in the Club; Rena explains that they did the previous year and Satoko was very good at it. She laughs as she replies that her "river was loaded with traps." Mion teases her uncle about playing a game "on the clock"; he replies that a customer told him he could performs a tsubame gaeshi, and he asked the customer to show him. Unlike When They C ry Wiki, Keiichi understand the meaning of this and dramatically enters the view to scream, "Tsubame gaeshi?!!" Yoshiro reaffirms it. 
Rena asks what it is, and Satoko quickly replies that it is a trick where the player secretly swaps his hand with the wall. Reëntering Cute Mode, Rena insists that Satoko demonstrate it, but Satoko laments that despite her practice, she has only succeeded a few times. Rena insists that she try. The scene shifts to Satoko sitting before tiles whilst the rest stand around her. She insists that they do not judge her if she fails. Keiichi asks why she would practice this technique; Mion replies that Satoko plays by laying traps ahead of time. A determined Satoko begins, and the tiles fly before the shocked faces of Keiichi and Mion. Rena similarly watches in shock as Rika emits a disappointed "Miiii." Yoshiro laughs as Satoko laments that she knew that she could not do it. Keiichi offers to try, followed by Rena. Ōishi Kuraudo enters asking what is going on. A concerned Rika says his name in surprise, as Mion teases him about stopping in while he is working.
Keiichi startles at the title "detective." Ōishi laughs his patented laugh and insists that he is not working and only enters to buy a new mahjong mat. He asks them if they like mahjong. He then teases he did not think young people could play a game so complicated, which elicits glares from Keiichi and Mion. Mion laughs back and explains that they were practicing the tsubame gaeshi. To this, Ōishi reacts with shock. Yoshiro introduces Ōishi as the customer he mentioned. Keiichi stands shocked; Ōishi laughs that he would not try it in a real match, but it is a nice trick. Keiichi jumps from his seat and asks "Ōishi-san" if he can show them how to do it. With suitable drama, Ōishi sits down and performs it. Utterly impressed, Keiichi introduces himself and begs him to show him how to perform it. When Ōishi agrees with his laugh, Rika watches and thinks in her Adolescent Voice that she cannot believe the two are happily playing mahjong. As Keiichi tries to work out the maneuver, Ōishi looks up and greets Akasaka Mamoru. Utterly shocked, Rika slowly turns to see him enter bathed in anime light. He apologizes for getting lost.
Still in light, Rika slowly walks toward him. She asks him if he is really Akasaka. He smiles and replies that she must be "Rika-chan." As the others marvel that she knows him, the scene returns to normal, and Akasaka greets her with the traditional "long time no see," then compliments her on how she has grown. Akasaka explains that he is here with his wife on vacation while his daughter is with his parents. Ōishi walks over and teases that Akasaka is quite attached to his wife. He relates how when Akasaka came to Okinomiya five years before, he became worried about her and abandoned his work to return. Not sharing in the humor, Akasaka explains to Rika that he returned due to the warning Rika gave him. Worried, he returned to the hospital and discovered that a person fell on the stairs that his wife, Yukie, usually walked up and down. He kneels down to Rika's level and concludes that if he had not listened to her, his wife may have been hurt. As they listen, Satoko notes that Rika does say things that prove prophetic. Mion agrees and adds that people do say she is Oyashiro-sama reborn. He grasps Rika by her hands and renews his promise to her to help her in anyway she requests. ..
. . . the screen goes black save for the date "June 19, 1978,". ..
. . . there is a flashback to Rika warning the injured Akasaka in her Child Voice with an interesting echo effect – see Referbacks – that on this date in June 1983 or a few days later, she will be murdered. She insists that she wants a "happy life," that is all she has ever wanted. She wants to live out her days surrounded by her beloved friends. She does not want to die. 
The scene changes back to Akasaka with is hands on her shoulders reminding her gently that it has been five years. He has grown strong, has years of experience, and he can help her now. She approaches him until her mouth is just in front of his left eye, and she tells him that she needs to talk to him. Outside the store, she asks him how long he will be here. He replies that he and his wife will stay through the Watanagashi Festival. He jokes about having a long summer vacation and his precinct becoming upset that he is not using his personal time off for this. She asks if he will actually be in Hinamizawa during the festival. He explains that he will not since his wife is waiting for him at the Wakura Onsen. As he explains that will it is a bit far from Hinamizawa, he will be there, but Rika interrupts him by looking up at him and saying his name. He startles. She asks him if he can stay in Hinamizawa for the whole time leading up to the festival. She looks up at him and emphasizes that she needs him to help her.
He thinks, smiles, then replies that he will tell his wife Yukie that she will have to head off to the hot springs without him. As Gentle Piano Music gently intrudes, Rika asks if he is sure. He laughs that he wants to help him however he can, and he would be devastated if he could not be there for her when she needed him. She thanks and bows to him. He insists that he should thank her, that Yukie will not mind, though she might be a little upset, and Rika smiles back as jokes that that will not be good. 
Then the higurashi c ry as Rika lies bleeding on a floor looking up with a raving smile. she has been stabbed multiple times in the belly, chest, arms, and legs. The scene moves about to match the laughing Akasaka's perspective. He has clawed both sides of his neck. He declares triumphantly that he has discovered where the parasites are hiding, chortles some more, then digs into neck with his fingers while claiming that the parasites are inside him. As his blood drops on the tatami that causes When They C ry Wiki to speculate upon his coagulation status, he screams "get out!"
Rika looks up at him in both shock and resignation. From outside, Ōishi's megaphoned voice calls to Akasaka. The scene reveals that the home is surrounded and cordoned off by police. Ōishi continues that if he has demands, he will listen. He asks that Akasaka simply let Rika go. Inside, Akasaka glares in the direction of Ōishi's voice and screams for him not to interrupt since he has almost got them. Just a few more minutes, he insists, and he will be rid of the parasites in his brain.
He approaches Rika still holding the knife in his right hand. As she still looks up at him with her eyes wavering in fear, he gently claims that he has come to help her. He then brings his knife down which cuts into the right side of her neck. Her eyes roll up as her blood pools underneath her head. He drop the knife and scratches his neck with both his hands while he declares that all of the parasites in her are gone. "I saved you, Rika-chan!" he declares between scratches.
In her Adult Voice, Rika mutters that he is correct. Akasaka wanders off screaming that it itches over and over. Off screen, he declares he knows how to kill the parasites, and he then returns with a container of gasoline, which he then proceeds to spread over the room as he screams that it itches. He vows to burn the parasites. Rika weakly raises her right hand and opens it so she can gaze at her five fingers. Outside, Ōishi again asks Akasaka to tell him what he wants. The rest of the Gang rush up: Rena calls out to Rika; Mion asks why this is happening; and Keiichi tries to climb over the rope. Ōishi grabs his arm to stop him. Keiichi protests that he must save their friend; Ōishi insists that he understands, but Keiichi must leave it to the professionals.
Satoko repeatedly calls out to Rika, begging her to call out if she is alright. Her answer.png.png is the entire top floor of the house she shares with Rika exploding. Keiichi breaks free from Ōishi's grip and succeeds in pulling out the sliding front door. Inside, amidst the flames, Akasaka still screams that it itches as he digs into his neck. Still in her Adult Voice, Rika comments as she stares up at her hand that the tragic dice that control her fate never fail to amaze her. She admits that she is stunned to even think it would be Akasaka this time.
She starts to laugh. She folds in her thumb to leave four fingers, then snaps her fingers loudly which cuts the scene to black. ..
