Teppei stands shocked at the doorway with Satoko, appearing scared, peeking from behind him.
Harayama formally greets them within the genkan holding his meishi with Ōishi and Kumagai behind him. Teppei reacts with shock and demands Ōishi explain as Satoko buries her head into his side. Ōishi responds that he concluded that having them see the truth with their own eyes would prove faster than him explaining it to them. Harayama turns to Ōishi and demands to know what he means by "the truth." Satoko lets go of her uncle, approaches, then explains that the village has banded together to harass her and her uncle.
The scene shifts to a simple but properly placed meal of stir fry. Harayama scribbles in his notebook. The scene reveals Teppei and Satoko seated at the table before the meals with their heads turned to observe Harayama standing and furiously scribbling. Teppei lets out a sigh. The voice of Kumagai is heard asking Ōishi if he knew all of this. The scene then shifts outside to reveal the two policemen smoking outside the home. Ōishi responds that the two came to him for help. Kumagai looks over the area as he confesses that he still finds it hard to believe that the entire village works together to harass them. Ōishi responds that Hinamizawa is the one place where something that rotten could happen as he scratches at his neck.
The plates of stir fry are wrapped in plastic.
In a room with a table, Teppei and Satoko sit across from Harayama. Ōishi and Kumagai stand watching, with Ōishi scratching at his neck. With his notebook open before him, Harayama announces that he conducted a thorough search of her home and interviewed Satoko. When Teppei asks what he found, Harayama adjusts his glasses and admits that Teppei's home situation is nothing like what the protestors claim. While Teppei reacts, Ōishi asks what the Child Welfare Services will do as he continues to scratch his neck. Harayama replies that as someone born and raised in Okinomiya, he knows that Hinamizawa is a strange place. He then admits that with the Sonozaki involved he is not sure how he can handle it. In response, Ōishi suggests that he transfer responsibility for the case to him. Kumagai interrupts to remind him that they have not even asked the chief, but Ōishi stifles him with a raised hand. He then asks if Harayama agrees. Harayama thinks, grunts, then agrees. Ōishi deems this the smart choice.
The scene shifts to outside of Ōishi's car. As Harayama and Kumagai walk towards it, Ōishi remains at the Hōjō house's entrance addressing Teppei and Satoko. He notes that tomorrow is Watanagashi. When Teppei asks him what about it, Ōishi reminds him of the curse that targets enemies of the village. Teppei pauses, but Satoko completes Ōishi's suggestion: "we are the village's enemies." As Teppei reacts in shock, Ōishi warns them that the criminals who carry out the curse will very likely come after them. He recommends that they stay inside tomorrow. Teppei asks if that will be enough, and Ōishi promises to watch over their home at night during the festival. He ends his promise with a bow, then he adds with a smile that they will be safe. He leaves scratching his neck. Satoko watches with a depressed resignation.
The scene moves to the festival grounds in the late afternoon where workers finish setting up their stalls as children watch. The scene then moves to night. The lights in Rika's home come on, and the scene moves to her pulling on the string. She is surprised by her phone ringing. She rushes to answer.png.png and is delighted to hear Satoko. She asks if Ōishi and the Child Welfare Services came to her, but Satoko asks her to calm down.
As she explains that Keiichi asked him the same thing, the scene shows a flashback of Keiichi at his home talking on the phone with determination. Rika asks what happened, and Satoko claims that when she asked for help, her uncle became angry and attacked her, but Ōishi subdued him and took him to the police station. The scene shows the sleeping Teppei passed out on the floor as she concludes her story. A tipped over cup of tea explains his slumber. On the phone, Rika asks her if she is okay. Satoko replies that she is fine, and her uncle will never return to this house again. The scene focuses on the dishes from their meal soaking in the sink then to the room with the table where a tea pot sits with two strips of ten pills with the pills removed. Meanwhile, Rika celebrates Satoko. She declares that Satoko fought fate and won as Satoko stares at her passed-out uncle.
Satoko says Rika's name. Rika continues that now she will finally be free.
Satoko hangs up the phone, looks towards her uncle, then smile as she muses that Rika probably believes that she has found a nice happy ending, "but Oyashiro-sama's curse is only just the beginning." She looks into the camera, and her eyes blaze brightly.
The newspaper folded in the railings of the fence reveal that it is Sunday, June 19, 1983.
With the crows c crying, Rena bubbles in excitement, as she walks towards the water wheel with Keiichi, over learning that Satoko will attend Watagashi. Sitting on the steps of the building, Mion waits. Keiichi confirms that she told him over the phone. Mion stirs when she hears their approach. She quickly comes to her feet and waves; Rena waves back with apologies for being late. Shion bounces in to rhetorically ask them to guess who is coming with them. Keiichi observes that they are only missing two now, and Mion explains that Rika is bringing Satoko. Shion suggests that then everyone will be together at last, and Rena happily responds that this will be a special evening.
The scene shifts to the view of a ceiling light. As it brightens, the c ries of the higurashi enter and rise with it. Teppei comes to and rises holding his face. "Ah, finally awake," Satoko sarcastically greets him. Teppei responds with some surprise that his head feels so heavy. From his viewpoint, which moves in and other of focus, Satoko smiles at him. He staggers into the hallway wondering, out loud, what is wrong. He holds his mouth as he, unsuccessfully, tries to prevent himself from vomiting. Whilst this happens, Satoko impatiently notes that since Rika will arrive soon, his timing is terrible: "I'm suppose to be a pitiful princess who was just rescued from her horrible uncle." As he staggers back into the room, she continues her complaint that the entire village is suppose to support and fawn over her at the festival.
Teppei falls to his knees in front of her and asks her if she is okay: "Did something happen to you while I was passed out?" With her hands on her hips, and the higurashi c rying, she sighs in exasperation then addresses him formally. She lowers herself to one knee to face him as she asks him what he thought of the time they spent together. He initially struggles to answer.png.png, but, with a smile, he confesses that a "shithead" like him barely deserved to feel as happy as he did. Satoko smiles as she closes her eyes and replies that she is happy to hear that. She opens her eyes, which then blaze with a dramatic musical chord, as she adds, "but that ends here."
The higurashi crescendo as she stands smiling with her eyes blazing. The scene shifts to reveal that Satoko is holding her gun to his forehead. Teppei stammers her name, but the scene is, well, shattered by the red cracks shattering the black background. Returning to a view of the ceiling light, Satoko's voice informs Teppei that it is time for him to die.
The sound of a gunshot is heard as the scene follows the spent shell bouncing upon the tatami. The winching Teppei opens his eyes and gasps in shock to see Satoko struggling to hold her hand steady. With her eyes still blazing, Satoko reacts in shock. She finds her right hand moving as if on her own. The scene reveals that she shot the floor to his left. She demands to know what is happening. Tears start to flow from between her closed left eyelids. They open to reveal her normal eyes. She calls out to him to run away, but her voice then protests that she will not let him get away as her head turns towards the camera to reveal that her right eye still blazes.
She struggles to control the gun which is pointed towards the ceiling. With effort, she brings it down towards Teppei's face, but she cannot aim it at him. With her eyes different, she begs her uncle to run. He asks her what is happening; she starts to turn the gun towards herself.
She forces the gun down and the scene shatters with read. The scene shifts to the phone which also shatters with red. She bring it above her head and the scene shatters with read. The room appears to shatter with magenta red. All around her, the scenes shatter. . . with red. As she demands that she not be a fool, the scene shatters. . . with yadda yadda.
Ultimately the scene pulls back to reveal her struggling with the gun with Teppei still kneeling before her. The scene cracks in many lines of red, then bursts towards the viewer. The scene shifts to the normal outside of their home. This appears to shatter from below the screen. A view above the home similarly shatters. ..
. . . until the scene becomes red then transitions into the Realm of Time Fragments. Two Satokos struggle with the gun. One has pink shorts and blazing eyes; the other wears blue shorts. In the Realm, the gun is red. Blue Shorts Satoko begs the other to stop. The other demands to know if she lost her senses. Blue Shorts Satoko, with normal eyes, insists that she is through with all of this. She declares that she does not want to kill her uncle, and she does not want to kill anyone else. The scene shows views of floating fragments that have Satoko in them. One of them has her with a happy Teppei; another has her hugging him.
Pink Shorts Satoko retorts that she is living through the eternal loops to ensure Hōjō Satoko's happiness. Blue Shorts Satoko insists that she is not her anymore. She demands that she give Satoko back to her. With a vicious knee kick, Pink Sorts Satoko sends her to the floor. Haughtily, she demands to know what she is saying. She declares herself to be Satoko.
Eua's mouth smiles. The scene pulls back to reveal her laughing as she observes. The scene then looks up at Pink Shorts Satoko approaching with her gun raised. She acidly asks the other what that makes her. Bringing her face close to the other whose view is that of the viewer, she claims that the other is merely the residuals of an old fragment. The scene pulls back to view them above. Blue Shorts Satoko denies that she is as the other describes. Pink Shorts Satoko insists she is, then she mocks her request to give herself back to her. She declares herself to be Hōjō Satoko and it is time for the other to leave.
She kicks her in the stomach. Blue Shorts Satoko confesses that she does not know where she went wrong, but she knows she did. Over a montage of her with Rika as they mature studying for the exam, she declares that she loves Rika. That she wants to be with her forever, and she just learned to be honest about that love. She rises as she confesses, again, that she must have gone wrong somewhere. Pink Shorts Satoko replies that from her perspective it is she who "went wrong" when her outdated emotions rejected their current reality. The other gasps as she continues to claim that she is Hōjō Satoko. She steps towards her as she declares that she is the one who lives in loops and transverses the great sea of fragments.
"Indeed, I am a witch!"
The other tries to flee, only to be stopped by Eua's staff. Eua raises it and laughs into her sleeve. Blue Shorts Satoko pleads "Eua-san," but Eua merely responds that her tale, "nay, your shared tale, is so unfathomably entertaining!" She confesses that lending her her power was truly and apt decision. Between Eua and the smiling Pink Shorts Satoko, Blue Shorts Satoko stammers the realization that Eua knew. Eua genially replies that she will say, though Satoko happily received her power, her manner of speaking was somewhat unpleasant at times. Still, it has been quite amusing.
As she sits in her chair, Eua suggests that if Blue Shorts Satoko finds this unpleasant, to reward her, she will relieve her of these emotions forever. Blue Shorts Satoko turns back to Pink Shorts Satoko who has raised her gun to her. Eua laughs at how entertaining Blue Shorts Satoko is; she can only react in despair. She laments that she was stupid, but Red Shorts Satoko protests as she places the muzzle against her head that she is not stupid.
She pulls the trigger, and the effect is obscured by the screen cracking between the viewer and the scene. It explodes to reveal Satoko pointing her gun at her uncle back in their living room. She lowers it and steps back. Stunned, Teppei says her name as a question. She points the gun at his forehead and fires. He falls backwards dead. The scene shifts to look up at her, with her eyes blazing and the higurashi c rying.
A bat drags along the floor. As the credits roll, with the higurashi c rying, Satoko drags her brother's bat down the hallway towards the living room. She enters, the sound of the bat striking flesh is heard, and blood sprays through the open door. Inside, a Typically When They C ry Volume of Blood Greater than the Human Blood Volume™ splashes the ceiling light. Satoko repeatedly strikes her dead uncle's head to release even more blood that sprays over the phone, paper calendar, walls, ceiling, and herself. She finally drops the bat and stands up. She stands in a pool of blood that is a Typically When They C ry Volume of Blood Greater than the Human Blood Volume™ with a similar pool on the ceiling raining down blood.
With blazing eyes and no expression, she stares down at the viewer. She spits out a bit of blood.
