</PRE> </noinclude>Kumagai Katsuya is a male officer in the Okinomiya police department. He first appears in Onikakushi-hen, when Ōishi Kuraudo tells him to get a patrol to help Maebara Keiichi before he claws out his throat. Kumagai accompanies Ōishi in a number of his investigations.

While Kumagai's appearance differs in the Higurashi media, he is always an attractive young man. In the anime, he is usually shown wearing a white shirt and tie and has black hair with patches of dark gray on the sides. In the manga, he wears a work suit and has completely black hair. In the Alchemist games, he wears a suit and tie and sports purple hair. He does not have a sprite in the original Sound Novels.
