Higurashi no Na ku Koro ni Kaku -Outbreak- (ひぐらしの な く頃に拡～アウトブレイク～, When the Cicadas Cry Expanded -Outbreak-) is an OVA project for Higurashi no Na ku Koro ni. It was confirmed on December 15, 2012 and released on August 15, 2013. The ending song is You.

The OVA follows the short story of Higurashi Outbreak, which was included in the soundtrack of Higurashi Daybreak and was written by Ryukishi07.

The project was helmed by Toshifumi Kawase, the series script supervisor of the previous Higurashi anime projects and the director of Higurashi no Na ku Koro ni Rei.

Higurashi Outbreak

Higurashi Outbreak is set in the same Hinamizawa village of the previous stories. The village has been completely sealed off due to a mysterious virus outbreak in 1983, and Sonozaki Mion, Maebara Keiichi and Ryūgū Rena deal with the repercussions. But this time, they do not know whether the virus is Oyashiro-sama's curse or simply a conspiracy. It is also shown that Rika might be infected by the virus. Not much is known about the story yet, but in an interview the makers of the OVA revealed that the ending will differ from the original story. So far, only one episode has been currently aired and it is currently unknown how many episodes will air and when the second episode will air.

The original sound novel version of Outbreak has been confirmed to be featured in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Hō.
